Dos and don'ts

Do

  • Introduce yourself with name, role and "HKU IAD-MSC"
  • Use polite, professional language
  • Arrange, confirm and reschedule appointments
  • Protect patient confidentiality at all times
  • Keep records of important communications
  • Reply during office hours; acknowledge out-of-hours messages

Don't

  • Diagnose or give clinical advice
  • Share patient information, photos or radiographs
  • Discuss treatment plans without supervision
  • Share patient data with unauthorised persons
  • Promise treatment outcomes without clinical assessment
  • Use slang, emojis or informal expressions
Golden rule. WhatsApp is for administration only. Diagnoses, treatment planning and treatment discussions happen face to face, under the supervision of clinical faculty. Use email for official communication.
